What to expect from our first session?

Your first session is really about getting to know each other. Most counsellors focus on creating a calm, welcoming space where you can talk at your own pace. Typically, you can expect:

·        A conversation about what brings you in

·        Questions about your history, goals, and what you hope to change.

·        An explanation of how the counsellor works — their approach, boundaries, and what sessions usually look like.

·        A chance to ask questions so you can decide if it feels like a good fit.

How to know when it’s time to seek support?

People often wait until they’re overwhelmed before reaching out, but counselling can help long before things reach a breaking point. It may be time to seek support if:

  • You’re feeling stuck, lost, or unsure how to move forward.

  • Stress, anxiety, or sadness are affecting your daily life.

  • You’re noticing changes in sleep, appetite, or energy.

  • Your relationships feel strained or confusing.

  • You’re going through a major life change — even positive ones.

  • You simply want a space to understand yourself better.

You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling.

How to choose a right counsellor for you?

Finding the right counsellor is less about credentials and more about connection. Consider:

  • Do you feel safe and understood?

  • Does their approach match what you’re looking for?

  • Do they have experience with your concerns?

  • Is their communication style warm, direct, gentle, or structured — whichever you prefer?

  • Are practical factors like location, availability, and fees workable for you?

Most counsellors offer a consultation call. Trust your instincts — the right fit feels comfortable, not forced.
