Depression
Although it may not seem like it, depression is very common amongst people. It can be difficult to recognize largely due to the stigma associated with it, as many are afraid of acknowledging that they or their loved one may be struggling with it. The fear of being diagnosed with a mental illness tends to hold many people back.
Some common symptoms that may be seen in people with depression include feeling hopeless, helpless and worthless. They may also have a lack of energy and could be struggling with sleep or appetite issues. Typically, these symptoms last consistently for 2+ weeks. Since this can impact so many parts of our lives, it is crucial to reach out for help before symptoms get worse.
What is anxiety?
Anxiety is the feeling of being overwhelmed by outside situations. It is a fearful response caused by an overstimulation to the brain. Anxiety can be caused by many things, such as fear of seeing a specific person, going to a public space or speaking in front of large crowds. It can also impact people differently. For some, it may feel like butterflies in the stomach, sweaty palms and an increased heart rate. Although these may not seem extreme, if someone is continuously fearing a specific situation over the course of a few weeks, then it may be a sign that they may have more than just simple nerves. They can negatively impact their day-to-day living with anxiety, as they may become fearful of things that should not be feared of, which could lead to panic attacks.

What can we do to cope with anxiety?
The most common advice given to overcome anxiety is to take deep breaths. This is especially helpful in reducing heart rate and overcoming anxiety quickly. Journaling, distracting yourself through hobbies, talking to a trusted figure, or going for a walk can all be helpful in managing anxiety on a day-to-day basis.
